Kinley is now on Twitter
Actually we’ve been playing around with Twitter where we are known as KinleyCo for a couple of months now. Interested as ever in technology that might help with communication, it started out as curiosity about all the buzz surrounding Twitter and now it’s difficult to put it down. We’ve found it useful, and although we’re not sure how much use it will be for managing projects, it is certainly good for getting messages out there and hearing about what our partners and those we follow are up to.
The First Post
Our first post was on 1st May 2009, and so far we have posted 18 Tweets and somehow we have managed to get 31 followers so far. That is 31 people or companies we have never met before, but maybe one day we will meet one or two of them or even do business with them.
That first post was Waiting for the Oracle Primavera partnership to come through which it did fairly quickly. It’s simple things like this that make Twitter so good. It tells our followers a little more about us, and telling people what you want them to know is something Twitter excels at.
Getting In Deeper
It is possible to just use Twitter from the web site, but in reality it makes a lot more sense to use other tools that are available. We use Tweetdeck and as the days go by we get better at using it for research, seeing breaking news in the world and just keeping up to date with our partners in Oracle as well as other people and companies we follow.
As well as starting this blog today, we also put our Twitter feed on the Blog page and the front page of our web site.
Twitter And Managing Projects
We don’t really believe there is a strong argument for using Twitter to manage projects par se, but we think it could be useful when crying out for help or just plain updating the world about success.
When you are crying out for a Planner, Primavera P6 Administrator or Deltek Cobra Superuser you can just shout out for one on Twitter. Though come to think of it, you’d be wise to just come to us for those people.
At those times when something goes well in a project or you just want to crow to the world then Twitter can come in handy again. The we’ve just finished XYZ project for ABC client kind of Tweets may generate interest for more work, speaking engagements and general rising of profile.
The one thing we have learnt is to use Twitter without any expectations. We simply use it to inform other Twitter users about what we’re doing, what we’ve heard other organisations and people are doing and point out the odd article we’ve written or indeed, read that we think would be of interest.
